Summary/Abstract: The Révay family was one of the educated noble families that fled to Slovak territory from the Ottoman Empire after the Battle of Mohács. A part of the estates was obtained by Ferenc I. Révay, one of the most significant family members, through the support of Ferdinand I in the war of succession against John Zápolya (Ján Zápoľský, János Szapolyai). The main family residences were Sklabina and Blatnica castles; both castles were located in the eastern half of the county Turiec [Turóc, Turz]. In addition to the basic family history, the author also studies Ferenc I. Révay's approach to reformation (his correspondence with Luther, the spread of Protestantism in the region of Turiec) in combination with the humanistic education provided for his sons by Catholics, due to career reasons (in Padua with support from the archbishop of Esztergom, Veszprém bishop and others), the content of the Révay library and its support for education at elementary school level, the financing of the publication of books and education, and the activity of Ferenc's grandson Peter Révay.
