Summary/Abstract: In the article the author has traced the artistic realization of philosophical ethical conception of «the balance» in the story «The conscience» by F.Potushnyak. The spiritual making of the main character Petro is symbolically revealed through the image of scales of conscience. The core of artistic evolution of Petro is the peace of mind, harmony, balance of inward scales under any living circumstances.
