Music to animated film: compositional approaches

Summary/Abstract: Based on examples from the history of animation and the author’s personal compositonal experience, the article explores major developments and various creative approaches in making music for the animation cinema. It is argued that sound and image here have no universal principle of interaction. Yet, the idea of musical illustration, on one hand, and the free interplay between image and sound, on the other, outlines both sides of common boundaries in the search for specific sound solutions.
