Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the influence of New Public Management on the functioning of the Ombudsman’s institute in the countries which are typical representatives of New Public Management, such as: Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. New Public Management is the common name for a series of reforms that have been conducted in the public sector in the past three decades in OECD countries, as well as in the developing countries undergoing transitional processes. Since these countries are distinct in their economic, social, political, cultural, constitutional and structural traits, they are, therefore, different in the way in which the Ombudsman’s control is functioning in the conditions of New Public Management. The privatization processes and the creation of numerous agencies represent a serious threat for the Ombudsman’s institute. A number of organizations that operated within the public sector has been, either privatized, or their functions have been transferred to private sector. Hence , a number of responsibilities that were delegated to Ombudsman, can now be placed outside his authority, which would also diminish the accountability of public sector and leave the citizens without mechanisms for obtaining remedies for the damage they have suffered.
