Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present „the Borderland features” as an indication of the socio-economic development of the region on the example of the festival in Basznia Dolna. The political and economic transformations initiated in Poland in 1989 have highlighted many years of neglect in the area of broadly understood socio-economic policy, especially in rural areas. These included border with Ukraine - the Lubaczów Municipality where three large State Farms, a glassworks, a sulfur mine and several other unprofitable enterprises were liquidated. The rapid change resulted in a progressive degradation of the region and a rapidly growing level of poverty. Fortunately, in the beginning of the 21st century, with full respect for the principles of sustainable development - the program of revitalization of the community began. Tourism, with its „Borderland features” and multicultural tradition, became the guiding theme of the transformations. In 2005 the Festival of Cultures and Borderlands Cuisine in Basznia was held for the first time. Thanks to this event the Lubaczów Municipality became an important region of Subcarpathia.
