Summary/Abstract: Graz was the gateway for Italian music much earlier than other residences north of theAlps including Vienna. Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli had contacts to the archdukesand trained their musicians like Giovanni Priuli, Giovanni Valentini and AlessandroTadei, who later worked also at the imperial court in Vienna. Quite a number ofother musicians — e. g. Georg Poss — were hired in Venice for the Graz court, andthe polychoral style was predominant also with composers working at other courts, atmonasteries and churches like e. g. Sebastian Ertel.
