Summary/Abstract: The present study summarizes the testimonies of 11 witnesses who reflect their 21st August 1968 and also assess the subsequent developments in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic known today as "normalization". The study was carried out within the university course "Oral History in Practice", which I teach at the Department of History at the University of West Bohemia and it is a contribution to the Czech Republic’s “anniversaries of the eights”. Although it is a qualitative study, which means that the results can not usually be generalized, I would like to present some partial conclusions to the readers. The study intends to support the teaching of history in the way of the so-called "revival of history" and also to hear the voice to the so-called "ordinary majority". What all the witnesses have in common is the fact that they were not politically or culturally active at the time of the normalization and the allied troops of The Soviet Union invaded them unprepared, just like most people in the nation.
