Summary/Abstract: The danger of deflation is often mentioned today, along with the many concerns about the European and partly the American economies. Analysts cite the Japanese economy, which has suffered deflation for the past two decades, despite the huge investments and government efforts to increase inflation. Similarly, despite the trillions of dollars, euros, pounds and yens invested in the economy over the last few years, the inflation in Western countries is still low. Overall, there is a reason to say that the European countries suffer from "the Japanese disease" and it can progress and even become chronic. The United States, although to a lesser extent, has the signs of the disease as well. As a result, financial injections may become permanent, as is the case in Japan. This article aims to identify the causes and to clarify the problem of inflationary and deflationary processes in the world, as well as to suggest some forecasts.
