Summary/Abstract: The traditional retail market in Bulgaria includes a great number of small retail outlets specialising in the sale of a particular product or group of products. After the accession of our country to the European Union, a process of concentration of capital and penetration of the big commercial chains in Bulgaria has started, which has facilitated the development of modern trade. This requires studying the processes of mutual influence, the emergence, and application of new rules among subjects in the retail of FMCG. The main aim of the article is to characterise the specific features of the two basic models which are mentioned. Attention is drawn to their advantages and disadvantages, dynamics and trends in their development, focusing on the effects of large corporate business in the commercial sphere on small retail outlets.
