Summary/Abstract: Due to its geographical characteristics (second longest river in Europe, passing through or bordering 10 different European states) the Danube has had a major importance for the regional security, has influenced the balance of power in Europe and has played a part in the economic development of the riparian states. Its complex characteristics require a constant focus due to potential security issues which may affect it. However, can it also be viewed as a Regional Security Complex? The present paper aims to answer this question by proposing two hypotheses based on the RSC Theory and on a complex description of the relevant international environment.
