Summary/Abstract: France is an EU and NATO member of the first generation, one of the main western powers and historically an important ally of the USA. In spite of this, France has always aspired to a more balkanced international system and it opposed “unilateralist” American policies like the 2003 invasion of Iraq, thus being an example of the proliferation of the anti-Americanism with the public opinion. However, new French president N. Sarkozy greatly improved US-France relations and is seen in US as a reliable ally.
