Summary/Abstract: This paper is focused on the analysis of the major fundamental geopolitical changes that took place in Eurasia in the recent years and the nature and characteristics of the relations between the South Caucasus states and the Euro-Atlantic structures. The paper also presents the political and economical interests as well as the security threats and opportunities involved in the relations between the Caucasian states and the Western European states. Among the interests, probably one of crucial importance is the energy issue, taking into account the fact that the Caucasus region is a very important energy hub. When analyzing the security threats from the Caucasus region, one may notice that the “frozen conflicts” and the problems imposed by illegal trafficking are among the most threatening ones. Last but not least, the paper focuses on the issues related to the Wider Black Sea Area> opportunities, evolution and chances for regional cooperation.
