Summary/Abstract: This paper offers insight into the processes associated with electro-musical instruments (EMI) in Russia and the USSR (1910s – 1990s), and the real stories of the instruments and their owners. The main focus is on the use of EMI in the field of academic music and educational practice. The article also highlights the uniqueness of the Russian experience in the development of EMI and their use in various areas of life in the context of the aesthetics of the modernist state that the USSR then was.
