SOME ASPECTS OF MODERNIZATION AND АCCEPTANCE OF WESTERN CULTURE IN THE SERBIAN SOCIETY DURING THE 19TH AND 20TH CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents an overview of the social moment in which the Serbian society is found today, and which is being asked to respond to the question whether it can become the part of the community of nations of modern Europe and what the obstacles that stand in the way are. The text sheds light on the facts that show how the Serbian society over the last two centuries, embarked on the path of westernization and modernization, which resulted in a partial step forward to enlightened and modern European societies. It also points out the reasons why the Serbian society, from time to time, turns to conservatism which reduces the effects of modernization efforts.
