Summary/Abstract: I present in this article in basic outlines the origin and the historical development of the monastic rules in christian East till the appearance of the order of Saint Basil the Great. Many christians found their way to perfection on the basis of those rules. We can still say that all institutes of consecrated life have been inspired by their authors.
