Summary/Abstract: This study’s main objective is focused on pointing out Bulgarian National Radio Folk Song Ensemble’s work priorities, laying particular emphasis on the chorale in the opening stage of its creation, covering a period of twenty years or so (1952 – 1973). Based on numerous documents and records from the Bulgarian National Radio archives found out by the author, as well as on some publications, there has been constructed a clear system in the differentiation of several periods in the Ensemble’s development. It depended on establishing basic working methods as a result of conductors’ requirements, repertoire selection, along with participants’ capacities in the creative process. This chorale formation maintains the tendency to preserve the open chest voice sound in unison, with uniform and deep-toned choral sonority. This way the ensemble sets work standards for newly-formed folk choirs and ensembles in Bulgaria.
