Summary/Abstract: Improvisation is the oldest way of human expression at the arts. While having undergone a long evolution, its principles were not written down for preservation. Improvisation and prearranged, composed practice coexisted for a while, then the former started gradually losing its importance. At the beginning of the 20th century, with the arrival of jazz and its triumph all over the world, improvisation has undergone a rebirth. In its core lays the principle of expectation. It is an immanent part of the jazz dance, also requiring jazz technique and body possibilities’ knowledge. One also has to be aware of the inner psycho-physical energy flow and thoughts’ and feelings’ expression – the whole inner world of the performer. It is a wonderful device for students’ creative opportunities development – so that they may project their “I” in the offered circumstances.
