Summary/Abstract: Aeroflot, the airline of the Soviet Union, could celebrate its 50th anniversary in 1973, and the author took this opportunity to give some additional facts about this company which he has described in Osteuropa in March 1969. The introduction brings figures about the traffic results and comparisons to the international traffic and Russian railways. A short summary shows the development of Soviet international traffic mainly with regard to the USA and the Federal Republic of Germany, a description of the new types of aircraft follows. The main part deals with airport facilities and ground operations. An important factor in the airport planning is the Institute Aeroproiect in Moscow, and the survey about its works and intentions is a picture of Soviet air traffic planning in the past and in the future. A short view on the use of civil aircraft in the military air transport concludes the article.
