Summary/Abstract: The observation and analysis of the genesis and the development of the art of orchestral conducting in Bulgaria demonstrates the artistic significance of the Bulgarian orchestral conductors and their influence in shaping the cultural values of generations of musicians in Bulgaria. The genesis of the conducting art in Bulgaria is a natural historic process and has to be regarded in close connection with the development of the opera and symphonic orchestras in the beginning of the 20th century in Bulgaria. The article focuses on symphony orchestra conducting and symphonic performing art, determining and analyzing of what conducting is and should be by observing the genesis and development of the art of orchestral conducting in Bulgaria. It is important to review the essence and evolution of the art of orchestral conducting to better understand its development in Bulgaria. In conclusion, the study is concentrated on the establishment, thus showing the implementation and development of the orchestral conducting tradition in Bulgaria. By defining the development of the art of conducting in Bulgaria, it brings to our attention the process of unification that is taking place in the last decades of the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first century. The analyses of the processes relative to the genesis and development of the art of orchestral conducting in Bulgaria uncovers the specific forces from political, social, and cultural aspects that are significant and have an essential role in forming the cultural values and the aesthetics of future Bulgarian generations of musicians.
