Summary/Abstract: The main problem of euthanasia (derived from the Greek eu, meaning "good", and thanasia, meaning "death”) is the issue when to let (or help) people die. The purpose of this paper is to provide a theoretical discussion of issues connected with euthanasia and to try to answer to the question: did new developments in medical technology and the medicaiization of life change the Hippocratic oath? There are at last three argument used to justify the termination of human life: mercy, autonomy (selfdetermination) and the cost of maintaing life.
