Summary/Abstract: Among the musical works dedicated by the composer Oleg Negruţa to the wind instruments is his Fantasy on a Theme by Paganini for piano and clarinet. Borrowing from the great violinist’s form and thematism, the author blended some neoclassical elements with others, typical of the jazz manner, featuring to the famous capriccio another character than the original one. In addition, combining three different terms – fantasy, capriccio and theme with variations – Oleg Negruța signed a piece whose form, structure and content are dictated rather by the composer’s free fantasy than by some traditional techniques. This article is proposed to highlight some aspects in order to demonstrate the authenticity of the author’s compositional vision on Paganini’s theme.
