Summary/Abstract: The paper contains an environmental and economic assessment of the process of gradual involvement of fallow lands in agricultural circulation. Today, society is re-evaluating the current environmental situation in the world. As a result, in recent decades, the interest of agricultural producers in ecological or “green” farming methods has increased significantly, ensuring a gradual natural restoration of soil fertility and contributing to maintaining the natural balance of rural ecosystems. Environmentally friendly agricultural production technologies are an alternative the current intensive land use. Therefore, issues related to the prospects for the development of environmentally oriented agricultural production and the prospects for using fallow agricultural land for the production of environmentally safe food are highly relevant. In the presented study, an actual quantitative analysis of fallow arable lands was carried out for the whole of the Russian Federation and federal districts.
