Summary/Abstract: The adoption of a child is one of exceptionally important institute of the Family Law. It is the “best form of social protection of children without adequate parental care.” Apart from the definition of this institute, the Paper will also deal with the wider area of its implementation, and its interrelatedness with other relevant marginal institutes and fields, starting from the types and protection to the assumptions for establishing a partial or full adoption. We shall in brief outline analyse the substantive legal provisions of adoption in the international law, then we shall more widely discuss the adoption from the aspect of the origin and development of this institute in the home Family Law of two countries: Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The assumptions of establishing adoption will also be discussed.
