Summary/Abstract: Purpose of the article to consider the creative dialogue of S. Rachmaninov and F. Chaliapin, whose destinies are especially relevant for the Ukrainian musical history. Their personal communication and performing cooperation were reflected in the style of romances of Rachmaninov orus 34. The basis of the article's methodology is an integrated approach. The research is based on historical, biographical, theoretical, comparative methods. Of particular importance is the analysis of musical and poetic features of romances. The scientific novelty of the work is that for the first time in the Ukrainian musicology the creative dialogue of Shalyapin (singer) and Rachmaninov (composer and concertmaster) in the perspective of synergy, which directed direction of style searches of Rachmaninov in the field of vocal lyrics of the mature period of creativity of the composer, is outlined. Conclusions. The peculiarity of the performing manner of Chaliapin, his attention to the text and the skillful reproduction of artistic words in romances are especially reflected in the block of philosophical lyrics of some works of the 34 orus, devoted to Chaliapin. Stylistic searches in romances of the mature period of Rachmaninov's career took place taking into account the vocal style of performing Chaliapin. The enhancement of the role of melodeclamation, the change of the established type of Melos of the composer, attention and concentration on the poetic word and its Logos is a consequence of the creative dialogue of Rachmaninov and Chaliapin, which was clearly reflected in the three orus romances 34.
