Migration of Patients from the Lubelski Branch of National Health Fund in Terms Of Hospital Treatment – Hospital Wards

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was an analysis of the scope of hospital patient migration from Lublin region to other areas in Poland. The analysis was limited to the hospitals that signed an agreement allowing for mutual patient treatment, called “hospital wards agreement”.In order to understand the extent of provided services and their monetary value, the data fromthe National Health Fund (NHF) in Lublin was used. The NHF data was based on reports from the Lublin region healthcare providers. Total costs of hospital treatment-hospital wards formigrating patient sand percentages structures of these costs by region, unique patient type and illness type were analysed.The results of the NHF data analysis showed that most popular destination for hospital treatments of patients from Lubelskie region are both: Mazowieckie and Podkarpackie regions. The highest costs of treatments are found in the field of orthopaedics, cardiology as well as obstetrics and gynaecology. The most common group of migrating patients are pregnant women seeking to give birth outside of Lublin region.
