Summary/Abstract: Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in México are generally family businesses that comprise over 90% of the universe of business organizations. According to official data, SMEs in Mexico generate 7 out of 10 jobs; however, only 30% of organizations that are created passed to the second generation of inheritors and 10% was consolidated up to the third generation. The objective of this study is to analyze the process of adoption of information technologies as a factor of innovation that assists the permanency and development of family business. A case of study was developed by applying qualitative methodology based on interviews in a family trading company. Results show the process of adoption of information technology and its influence on the company’s capacity to manage the change promoted by the environment dynamism.
