Summary/Abstract: Illness or disability of one family member, i.e. one of the closest persons, is a difficult situation, requiring activation of coping mechanisms not only by the patient or the disabled one, but also by the other family members, who must look after that person. The situation becomes even more difficult if it is a serious and in addition a chronic dysfunction in the psychological functionig. In other words, the disease may constitute strain (stress) or even overstrain (distress) not only for the patient or the disabled, but also for his family and his close ones.
