Summary/Abstract: The ECHR regularly recalls that the Convention must be applied in accordance with the principles of international law. The Convention cannot be interpreted in a vacuum, but it should, as far as possible, be interpreted in such a way as to be compatible with the other rules of international law, of which it is an integral part.
