Discover the Meaning and Value of Engagement Time

Summary/Abstract: Engagement is an exceptionally beautiful time in the lives of people preparing for the sacrament of matrimony. Therefore, it should be accepted by them as a gift in which they can get to know each other, discover, grow in love and prepare to undertake common marital duties. This is the time when they discover their love as a vocation to fulfill. It is a time to learn the truth about love and marriage as an inseparable and lasting relationship between a man and a woman in which they give themselves to each other and accept each other unconditionally, completely and for their entire life, also opening themselves to the gift of parenthood. It is a time of learning responsibility for the other person and learning to give up selfishness for the benefit of the loved one and for his/her good. The time of engagement is also a time of mutual growth in faith and love for God. This is the discovery of the sense and meaning of His presence in everyday life, but also the time to learn the requirements of sacramental marriage and the meaning of this sacrament in their lives. It is a time of building unity with the community of the Church and learning that in this community they are to grow, develop. They are to support this community, but also expect support from it in difficult times.
