Summary/Abstract: The paper presents an attempt of a detailed reconstruction of the events of 74 B.C. on the Iberian Peninsula. The picture of hostilities looks the following way. The armies of Metellus and Pompey acted individually, yet probably according to the same plan, which implied the capture of the Ebro River valley and Further Celtiberia. The fact that they operated independently, along with the stubborn resistance of the Spaniards, gave Sertorius the opportunity to concentrate his main forces alternately in the most threatened sectors of the enemy’s attack and to successfully repel it.
