Chicago: Pasaulio lietuvių bendruomenė, 1989. 364 p. iliustr; The review surveys and analyzes the book "Lithuanian Customs and Traditions" by Danutė Brazytė-Bindokienė, published at the request of the World Lithuanian Community Board in the United States of America (USA). The purpose of the book is a cognitive-practical. Lithuanians (especially of the younger generation) could learn to be Lithuanian by maintaining Lithuanian traditions and customs. According to D. Brazytė-Bindokienė, the book presents the character features that best describe Lithuanians: national holidays forming the concept of statehood, calendar and human life cycle celebrations, which are distinguished by their Lithuanian traditions and customs. By revealing the problem of transferring, preserving, handing over and changing the celebration traditions of Lithuanians living in the United States, the review raises the issue of identity.
