Summary/Abstract: Jacob Gould Schurman, ambassador in Greece in 19121913, and author of the first academic work about the Balkan Wars, was invited by the Department of State to give advice after the American entrance in the war. The documentary study presented sometimes during the year 1917 offers a concise and thorough examination of the causes and development of the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913, and of their relation with World War I. The author insisted on the need of the Balkan states to reach the seashores, and on the complications caused by the intervention of Serbia in the already complicated Macedonian problem.
