Summary/Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the treatment costs of Venous Thromboembolism, Pulmonary Embolism, Deep Vein Thrombosis and to determine the economic burden that Low Molecular Weight Heparin, a preventive anticoagulant treatment, brings to a health insurance or hospital. Method: In the study, systematic review analysis was used in the selection of the articles reported for the determination of economic burden. All studies addressing the direct / indirect costs of VTE, DVT, PE or both according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria and reporting the costs of anticagulant therapy used to prevent these complications were discussed. Selected studies are prospective observational studies or retrospective studies, systematic review studies. Accordingly, a total of 35 studies were examined. Findings: In the study, the average annual cost for VTE; the minimum is $503,322 and in case of re-admission, it reaches up to $86,744. The cost of VTE in the US varies between ($3,000-$9500), while in Europe it is between $2,215 and $4,030. The average annual costs for PE ranged from a minimum of $3,758 to a maximum of $23,050, with a change in cost between $13,018 and $16,644 in case of recurrent hospitalization or whether the event was a primary diagnosis or secondary diagnosis. The average annual costs for DVT are between $3,740.48 and $26,292 and the total costs are between $1,095 and $10,758, and in the case of PE accompanying DVT, the total costs are $12,200 to $30,404. The cost of purchasing LMWH was calculated to be ($127-$211.7) on average in 7-day dose calculations. Results: The results obtained from this study are important in comparing the available antiguocogulant treatment options for the prevention of VTE attacks and recurrent VTE and will provide a significant benefit in predicting the impact of hospitals and health insurers on the budget.
