Determining Failure Problems of Tourism Students in Numerical Courses with the Qualitative Approach and Solution

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to reveal the reasons for the failure of tourism students in numerical courses taken at the undergraduate level. For this purpose, the study was carried out with qualitative research methods and interviews were held with students and faculty members at Adnan Menderes University Tourism Faculty. According to the findings of the study, it was understood that the failure in numerical courses was due to physical and behavioral reasons according to the students. However, the most striking aspect of the findings is that the most effective reason for the students' failure in numerical lessons is that they are related to the behavioral causes of the students and they show the physical reasons as an excuse for failure. As a result of the study, a number of reasons which are shown as the reasons for the failure of tourism students in numerical lessons were reached and compared with similar studies in the literature. Finally, suggestions were made to increase the academic success of tourism students.
