Summary/Abstract: This work attempts to prove that ‘The Twelve’ by Alexander Blok displays the character of his prerevolutionary lyrics and is concerned with the use of some poetic devices typical for romanticism. Both the motives and the contrasts as well as the sound of ‘The Twelve’ seems to be typically romantic. Those stylistic elements are organized according to the rules governing the arrangement of music. The repetitions concern the ‘vivid’ sounds and are realized in the form of exclamations, interjections and unfinished sentences. The romantic motives of the night, the masque-hero, the road and the wind undergo certain variations. There are many examples of contrastive arrangements of poetic images which in a certain way correspond to counterpoint in music. The duality of images conditions the appearance of sound contrasts and influences the rhythm and the time movement of the poem. The musical way of arranging the language as well as the content are forms of expressing the emotion of the literary subject. This very expression became significant in the Romantic Movement.
