Summary/Abstract: Due to the explosion of new industry branches, new technical specializationsand new technologies that need to be made internationally known, the importance of thetechnical translations increases by the day. On the other hand, technical translations havebeen considered as a marginal subdomain of the translation theories due to itsabstractness, the so-called lack of style and apparent simplicity. However, if the entiretranslation process is regarded as a means of technical communication, one could reachthe conclusion that this type of specialized translation is a much more complex process.The present article is meant to offer an overview of the misconceptions of the technicaltranslations and of some of the challenges a translator has to face when dealing with textsfrom the technical domain.
