Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes selected aspects of some literary translations from American poetry, especially by William Carlos Williams, made by a Polish poet Julia Hartwig during and after her several visits to the States. American translations in general are seen as peripheral in her literary life, especially when compared to, for instance, French literature and culture, which were very important, even formative for Hartwig’s creative personality. The American translations selelcted in this article could also be considered peripheral as they do not form the centre of Hartwig’s original literary oeuvre, which is the most crucial context of the paper.
