Summary/Abstract: The Diocese of Bielsko-Żywiec was established by a bull Totus Tuus Poloniae populus issued by Pope John Paul II on March 25, 1992. Fr. Tadeusz Rakoczy was appointed the first bishop of the diocese. With the creation of the diocese, the Theological Institute of St. John Kant with its library were established. Małgorzata Galm was responsible for the organization of the library. The core of the book collection consisted of donations provided by the Franciscan Theological Seminary in Katowice-Panewniki as well as by priests and lay people. By decree of Bishop Roman Pindel of June 1, 2016, the library was separated from the structures of the Theological Institute. Thus, the Diocesan Library and Archive in Bielsko-Biała was established. At present, the book collection consists of nearly 60,000 volumes of books and about 30 journal titles under current subscription.
