Summary/Abstract: Coco Chanel used to say that if they copy your work, this means that you are good in what you do. However, the words of the designer should be treated as a funny remark about the forgery, also in the fashion world. It seems that pla-giarism, or more explicitly called – artistic or intellectual theft is really common in today’s world. The times when universal access to all content of the Internet gives you the temptation to use them, regardless of the consequences. Plagiarism is one of the most serious allegations one can make against an artist. That is why determination whether any kind of creation has characteristics of indi-vidual artistic work is absolutely crucial. The border between plagiarism and elaboration is very fluid and dificult to grasp in practice. It is easy to assess any artistic or scientific activity as a copy of someone’s actions, but the answer whether we are dealing with plagiarism is not obvious, which is also confirmed by Polish case law. This work attempts to show the boundaries between similar meaning words: plagiarism, development and inspiration. It also answers the question of whether self-plagiarism is one of the forms of plagiarism and embeds the above issues in the realities of copyright
