Summary/Abstract: The article presents and justifies a thesis proposed by Wolfgang Oswald, according to which the tradition about the mountain of God (Horeb, Sinai) is a reminiscence of the tradition about Zion. The chronological order of names in the development of this tradition is as follows: “mo¬untain of God/YHWH”; “Horeb” – as the original appleativus “wilderness, ruin” in reference to the destroyed temple; Sinai – a symbolic reflection of the realities of the already functioning sanctuary in Jerusalem.
