The multi-ethnicity in Europe was shaped long time in the history, her image influenced the relations between countries and was often a source of international and internal conflicts. For this purpose, the international efforts have been made, which regulate the status of minorities in Europe and the world. Protective systems for national minorities were formed at different levels of policy; the global solutions of general and declarative nature, regional solutions, characterized by a greater degree of institutionalization, and national solutions with control mechanisms of functioning. These regulations, concerning minority policy in Europe, formulated in many international instruments, are declarative and facultative. Even within the European Union, there is generally no binding legal rights, which formulate protection of minorities. States are sovereign and the principle of the sovereignty determines the protection- policy of minorities living on their territories.

Demographic problems and their consequences have been analyzed in many different ways, from different points of view. Their conditions and mutual relations have been taken into account as well, even though the interest in population problems in capitalist societies results from the fairly prosaic reasons. Dealing with them means increasing costs. Under certain conditions, however, non-economic benefits can, or at least should, become more important than economic losses. The case of Wales seems to confirm this thesis. The basis for a prosperous and strong nation is its proper demographic condition invaluable from the perspective of competing with other nation – in this case with English one. The purpose of this article is to present the demographic situation of Wales, identify the most important of its demographic problems, as well as the actions taken by the Welsh Government in this regard.

In recent decades immigrants considerably influence the social and cultural landscape of Spain. The immigration brings a new dimension of multiculturalism phenomenon and enriches the hybrid (ethnic, regional, linguistic) Spanish identity. All immigrant communities are factors of cultural change in different levels of social life. Their impact on the receiving society can be both measured through the “hard” statistical data and described from the subjective perspective focusing on the social representations, expectations, fears, lifestyle and mentality changes, cultural closeness and remoteness, etc. Over the last years the global crisis has been a idée fixe of the socio-economic (but also cultural) discourse in many parts of the world. Spain was placed among countries most affected by the recession. Its economic downturn and social impasse led to internal political crisis (the accelerated general elections in 2011) and to appearance of the protest movement Indignados fighting for better conditions for life. Immigrants have become one the most relevant participant of the social changes in times of recession and conflicts. The intent of this article is to present the situation of the immigrant community in Spain in the period from 2008 to 2011, in reference to statistical reports, public opinion surveys and selected comments of Spanish press.

The aim of the article is to analyse the Polish-Czech relations on a social platform, seen through the prism of the football event—Euro 2012. The text opens with a glance at a broader context of these relations generated by mutual stereotypes and the media coverage of certain peculiarities of both national cultures. Then it goes on to giving quite detailed a record of the atmosphere created by the Polish and Czechs fans during the tournament, which was written into the conception of pop nationalism. The whole picture is enriched with an attempt to refer the situation observed in Wrocław to the attitudes Poles generally have to Czechs, expressed by means of statistical data as well as features of character traditionally ascribed to this nation in Poland.

The European Union is still in the stage of creating the system of protection of national and ethnic minorities. Attempts of the European Parliament to improve the situation in the European Union need research and reflection. Social integration is the most important plane guaranteeing European integration, which is the basis for the future functioning of the European Union. The European community, which will be characterized by a common identity, will not be made up of individual countries but nations retaining their own diversity. Despite many efforts of the European Union the situation of the Roma minority has not dramatically improved. The main reasons are insufficient actions by the European Union, corruption of officials, and lack of interest for the Roma community among the Member States. So far, the measures taken have not produced desired results, so it’s necessary to devote more attention to this issue. The European Union needs strong support from other EU institutions and civil society. The main problem that affects the Roma community is long and difficult road to integration and acceptance by the other citizens of the European Union. A common phenomenon is the reluctance to strangers who are victims of discrimination. Strongly rooted stereotypes, lack of tolerance for other cultures proves that even the best-designed programs, as well as initiatives from the European Union are not sufficient. First of all, there is a need for commitment and unforced intercultural education from both the Roma and the rest of society, which will lead to mutual respect for differences. The phenomenon of social exclusion of the Roma minority is often related to their lifestyle, habits and patterns different from the rest of the society. Help which is offered by the European Union and the Member States is generally perceived as an attempt to breach the culture of the Roma minority and replace it with another. That is why the European Union should develop a range of mechanisms and measures that may be accepted by the Roma.

In the interwar Poland, emigration was considered a possible solution of numerous interior problems of the country. That is why the contemporary Polish authorities believed in the success of colonial plans. In the early 1930s, Peru became a place where these efforts were intensified, encouraged by the president of Peru. The Polish government sent an official commission to this country with the aim to investigate possible settlement in the middle valley of the-Ucayali River. The conditions there were found favorable by the Polish officials. In 1927 and 1928, two settlement licenses were negotiated by private entrepreneurs. The article presents the details of this settlement campaign and its final results. Due to a variety of reasons, the action ultimately was a failure, and the Polish government decided to stop it in 1933. Next, it helped its participants leave Peru for Poland or alternatively move to Brazil or Argentina. In the late 1930, Poland returned to an idea of an official license agreement with Peru, this time without the participation of private institutions. These negotiations were never completed, however, because in 1939 WW II broke out.

The first Roma Caravan Memorial set off from outside the Ethnographic Museum in Tarnów in 1996. It was organised by Adam Bartosz, an expert on Roma culture, history and language, and Adam Andrasz, the president of the Association of Roma in Tarnów. The Caravan is to commemorate Roma Holocaust. Members of the Roma community can thus learn about the history of extermination from local priests and authors of historical publications. Participants of the Caravan visit the following places of martyrdom: Żabno where possibly 49 of German and 12 of Hungarian Romas were shot by the Nazis in summer 1943), the grave in Borzęcin Dolny where anonymous 28 Romas, killed in the nearby forests, were buried, and Szczurowa where Germans murdered almost an entire Roma settlement of 93 people; the victims were buried in the local cemetery; it is probably the biggest grave of Roma people on the present territory of Poland. he article deals with the role of patriotic songs in shaping national identity of the Polish. The discourse is divided into three matters. The first part is introductory and treats about the most essential issues and research problems, regarding the key topic. I attempt to answer the raised questions in the last part of the work. The middle part of a historical character presents crucial research assumptions, along with all the transformations that have taken place over the years, and have been influencing our comprehending of national songs and strengthening the feeling of national identity. The final part sums the discourse up and is critical to the key topic. I strive to foresee possible consequences of the described phenomena. I derive my conclusions from the analysis, presented in the second part of the article, and from my personal experience, which has been gained due to long years of participating and organizing patriotic concerts and performances.
