The article attempts a selective presentation of the role of imagination in developing children's thinking, redefining this relation in terms of the new guidelines in edu¬cation. Approaching the issue in title we shall not consider it a polemic intent, by analyzing intercorrelations between imagination and theoretical thinking we want to show why we should return to this issue which in fact not a new one. It seems that it should be expanded in order to include dialectical perspective concerning this age, which we are trying to approach integrating all in the first educational junction (preschool and primary education)

The aim of this study was to explore the mediation role of the expectancy component of motivation (self-efficacy and control beliefs for learning) in the relationship between learning strategies (cognitive, meta-cognitive, resource management strategies) and academic achievement. The sample consisted of 155 university students (85 psychology students and 70 architecture students). Learning strategies section from the MSLQ (Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire) was taken to assess the extent of learning strategies usage during exam preparation. Motivation for learning was measured by the Expectancy scale as a part of the Motivation section of the MSLQ. Mediation analysis was used for data processing. Following the proposed steps for mediation effect testing, a series of regression analyses was conducted: first, the expectancy component of motivation was regressed on learning strategies; second, academic achievement was regressed on learning strategies; and third, academic achievement was regressed on the expectancy component of motivation. It was found that learning strategies influence academic achievement indirectly through the expectancy component of motivation (Sobel test=2.18; p=.029). It is emphasized that students should be encouraged to use learning strategies in knowledge acquisition.

The needs and abilities of visually impaired people require an adequate analysis of the influence of existing physical environment characteristics on the mobility of these people, which serves as a prerequisite for understanding the activities that should be undertaken towards positive changes. This text reviews the concept of architectural disability as a fundamental factor of exclusion of visually impaired people from the society. The two dominant socio-culturally constructed models of disability are discussed in the text – the biomedical and the socio-political model, as well as the disability approaches that arise from these models. The text presents characteristic research data that indicate a negative influence of the physical environment characteristics on the mobility of visually impaired people, which influences their quality of life. These physical environment characteristics, which inhibit and prevent the mobility of visually impaired people, are architectural barriers that further create architectural disability. The concluding part provides examples of the recommended ways, arising from the socio-political model, in which it is possible to change the architectural design according to the needs of the visually impaired. One possibility is to apply a universal design which facilitates their mobility and contributes to their independence, hence improving their quality of life in its entirety. Before starting a discussion on any specific further inclusion, it is vital for visually impaired people to be able to reach certain places and find their way in given space.

The study compares socialization values held by respondents of different ages from ethnic Estonian and Russian-speaking minority groups living in Estonia over a period of 6 years. Data were collected in three rounds (2006, 2008, and 2012) of the European Social Survey (ESS) in Estonia. In each round representative samples of the non-institutionalized population aged 15 years and older filled out the Socialization Value Questionnaire (Tulviste 2013). They were asked to mark five qualities in a list of 17, which they considered the most important to develop in children at home. The study found that although the consensus between socialization values of two social groups has been relatively high and stable in the three rounds, it was bigger in older people than younger ones. Respondents placed social values (except independence – that is a self-direction value) among the qualities most desired in children. The stability vs. change and sex were linked to the specific quality rather than to the type of socialization values. The study contributed to the existing literature by demonstrating that the socialization values held by people relate strongly to their age: older people tended to choose qualities related to social values more frequently, and those of self-direction less frequently than younger people.

The main aim of this article is to analyze the causes and consequences of the scandal of sexual abuse of children by priests in the Catholic Church in the United States. Studies conducted in the USA showed that 90% of such cases concern ephebophilia, while 10% of pedophilia. Ephebophilia is a sexual inclination of adult men to young boys aged 12-17 years. Dramatic and painful experiences of the Church in the United States provoke many questions regarding the protection of minors and the relationship between the homosexuality and the priesthood in the Catholic Church.

Agential realism is a perspective situated within the new materialism and posthumanism which combines philosophical and physical issues. Karen Barad, feminist thinker and creator of agential realism, mixes poststructuralist ideas (Michel Foucault) and feminist critical theories with quantum physics, in particular with the thesis of Niels Bohr, one of the founders of this field. The main purpose of this article is to show the relations between agential realism and ideas presented by Deleuze and Guattari in one of their most famous books – Anti-Oedipus. The author of the paper focuses on the presentation of a processual ontology (especially on an explanation of how bodies, concepts, and objects are produced) resulting from the engagement of both perspectives.

This text attempts to reveal the relationship between Marx’s thought and the ontology of desire presented in Anti-Oedipus. Its key mode of operation, allowing exposure of the relationship between these two philosophical projects, will consist of omitting any references to psychoanalysis. Thus, the basic concepts forming the theoretical grid of Anti-Oedipus – concepts such as desire, body, unconsciousness, code, lack, and even Oedipus – will be explained without reference to the writings of Freud, Lacan and Melanie Klein. Too much time has been devoted to these last-named, as a result narrowing down the circle of recipients of Deleuze and Guattari’s work. It seems that the communication block was created primarily between Anti-Oedipus and the Marxist milieu (not counting a few minor exceptions). This is a channel that should finally be made available.

The study was based on the Existential Noo-dynamic Test (ND-E) constructed by K. Popielski.Women with chronic fatigue have a low level of noetic dynamics. Fatigue is significantly associated with the lack of affirmation of life and the lack of acceptance of life. Fatigue in women is to a significant degree associated with lack of perseverance in achieving challenging targets and fear of responsibility for one’s actions.

The article presents an overview of legal regulation of homicides in Lithuanian legal acts and some comparative insights into laws of other states, as well an inquiry into the concept of homicide applied in the jurisprudence of Lithuanian courts. Special attention is paid to demarcation of homicides and deprivations of life in cases of self-defense, separation of homicides and negligent deprivations of life, legal qualification of homicides committed with direct and indirect intent. The article also introduces sociological criminological theories that could be taken into account when explaining homicide situation in Lithuania (special attention is paid to explanations provided by the theory of social disorganization) and examines main psychological factors of homicides. The analysis presented in the article allows a statement that the Penal Code of the Republic of Lithuania introduces a wide concept of homicide. However in certain cases the concept is constructed in a too narrow mode while this fact leads the Criminal Code to contravene the right to life embedded in the European Convention on Human Rights in cases of self-defense. An analysis of jurisprudence of Lithuanian courts raises some doubts whether homicides and negligent deprivations of life are clearly demarcated in practice, a presumption followed by the courts to admit presence of indirect intent in the most of problematic cases could be noticed. Observation of the sociological research on homicide issue also allows insights that level of homicides in Lithuania could be explained while taking into account the influence of disorganized environment. However other sociological criminological theories, e.g. learning or strain theories, could provide significant explanations of the phenomenon of homicides in Lithuania also. An examination of psychological aspects of homicides allowed to discern some main factors that are able to encourage commitment of homicides: physiological and pathological affect, emotional states that do not reach the level of affect, however restrict understanding and control of one’s behaviour, asocial system of behaviour standards and reinforcements, mental disorders, alcoholic intoxication, as well as bias in processing of social information.

In this study, it is aimed to draw attention to the management of the emotions of a restaurant employee in the process of being bought by another business and avoiding the experienced resistance. Given the human-oriented nature of restaurant businesses, it is suggested that using the management of feelings as a usable technique along with traditional methods are the main objectives of research in the prevention of resistance. In the study, in-depth interviewing techniques were used to collect data. The interviews were carried out with 5 employees working in a restaurant where a new purchase was just carried out in Çanakkale province center. The employees were asked three basic questions about the subject. The questions were recorded via voice recorder, taken, and then deciphered. In manual assessments, the answers to the three main themes were examined. As a result, it was found out that employees had complicated (positive and negative) feelings during the change and displayed passive resistance while managers did not show empathy to employees, and social relations were an important binding factor in the resistance process
