The study deals with the issue of inconsistence between the expectations of Jews from the Czech lands who survived the Shoah and the post-war reality of society exposed to systematic anti-Semitism for over six years. After World War II, the Czech society faced not only material shortage, but above all a shift to a new political system (after a short period of limited democracy) and the impacts of demoralisation of the second republic and protectorate periods. The study analyses the individual, collective, legislative and political limits of the post-war worlds of Czech Jews from liberation (May 1945) till the February coup (1948). It is based on so-far unknown archival material, as well as other sources (press, memories, diaries, fiction, etc.). The combination of sources of official, media and personal nature allows for a better understanding of the structured minority mentality, i.e. the ways of thinking and behaviour that could have led to a radical re-assessment of the minority strategies for the future.

Conservation and transmission from generation togeneration of the spiritual values based on religious tradition was the main function of Jewish culture in the Paleof Settlement. The activities of the family and the religiouscommunity were aimed at its implementation. The main purpose of this article is to analyse the reception of Izabela Glebard’s (Czajka-Stachowicz’s) works, with particular emphasis on her only book of poety Pieśni żałobne getta. At first Gelbard intentionally chooses poetry, but after the experience of World War II, she leaves it completely and replaces by prose. The root cause of this state of affairs is the war trauma. Very important is also the critical attitude of the writer to her poems. These works have not been appreciated by literary critics who treat them as a document and testimony rather than a valuable poetry. It seems that the Gelbard poems, like all her works, are waiting for a new, contextual reading.

The bilingual poetry of Irena Klepfisz, a Polish-born Jewish-American poet, seems to constitute a unique case of Holocaust poetry. The poet, an intellectual and activist engaged in lesbian, queer, feminist and gender movements, advocates the reading of Holocaust poetry within the ramifications of gender oriented cultural theories. Her bilingual poetry undermines the hypothesis of the postvernacularity of contemporary Yiddish. The paper substantiates the thesis that the choice of the target language in the translation of bilingual Holocaust poetry has clear axiological underpinnings.

The author of this article discusses the place and role of the noble estate in the life of towns in the region in question. He focuses on both its members who arrived in towns for their temporary stay and those who were their permanent residents. It was the latter who in particular actively participated in the life of towns, primarily in their econo¬my, running numerous businesses and managing financial operations, lending money and taking fiscal obligations. Also, they often held offices as administrators in private towns, as well as vogts (Pol. wójt) and landed vogts in royal towns. Mutual relations with representa¬tives of townspeople led to multiple clashes and conflicts, provoked by both parties, yet the nobles were predominant. In the same way relations with Jews were shaped. A large number of examples of such conflicts were presented in this work. Also, the circumstances of migrations of the nobility to towns, both the royal and private ones, were shown, as well as their activity and the reluctant stance on the local townsmen.

I o swoim późniejszymi życiu.

„Dlaczego?” — „Bo ojciec to Mosiek, proszę Wysokiego Sądu. ”

Akurat miałem luksus pracy we własnym fachu.

W tekście wykorzystano fragmenty relacji mieszkańców Lublina i okolic, którzy pamiętają miasto sprzed 1939 roku. Data ta zamknęła długi etap w historii miasta, w którym światy chrześcijański i żydowski istniały obok siebie.

Odczucia te znajdują wyraziste potwierdzenie w literaturze wspomnieniowej, w materiałach akt postępowania karnego dotyczących Różańskiego i jego „drużyny”, a zwłaszcza w materiałach procesowych i operacyjnych przeciwko setkom osób z podziemia niepodległościowego.
