Златан Дудов преди ДЕФА – автор между теченията
The article presents some unknown episodes of the life and work of film director Slatan Dudow after his debut feature Kuhle Wampe and during his emigration to France until 1940. The text is based on recently discovered materials kept at La Cinémathèque Française (Paris) and the French National Archives. Until recently it was thought that the main creative activity of Slatan Dudov during his years in France were two theatre productions, essentially world premieres, based on Bertolt Brecht’s plays Señora Carrar’s Rifles (1937) and Fear and Misery of the Third Reich (1938). The study of the archives revealed dozens of different projects on which Dudov worked during his stay in Paris. In this period he formed largely his mature views as a filmmaker and theorist.
