A Unique Gesture on the Globe: railway Built as a Sign of Gratitude. The paper makes substantial references to the narrow railway at Zlatna - Alba-Iulia. In time, they cover a period of 139 years, time span dominated by two people: Lukacs Bela, the child who escaped the 1848 revolution in Transylvania, becoming a Minister in the Budapest Government and Pascu Dina, the Romanian woman •who saved him from death through her unexpected gesture of hiding him under her dress, in the evening of October 24th, 1848, when the soon-to-be Hungarian Minister was only one year and a half. The scene of this memorable event: the village of Presaca Ampoiului in Alba County. Once a Minister of transport in the Hungarian Government, Lukács Béla becomes directly involved - as a sign of gratitude - in building the railway, in the area of his childhood, known in the history of Romanian railways as "the jubilee track" (mocăniţa) it was opened on 22nd September 1895, it was 38,5 km long and the cost of building it was supported by The Anonymous Society of Local Railways Alba Iulia - Zlatna, and it meant 67.044 krone/krn of track. Until 1986, "the jubilee track” (mocăniţa) was transporting passengers and goods on a narrow track of 760 mm. Starting with the year 1986 the rail was modernized - with a normal track of 1435 mm - also building a surrounding on the North-East of Alba Iulia (near Bărăbanţ village) so now the railway is 42 km long. Since 2006, the private te company Registrans (belonging to SC. CF. TRANS SRL Braşov), has purchased/rented the most favorable sector (Bărăbanţ-Zlatna) having 4 passenger trains daily running, on state subsidy. Throughout the paper, there are many other circumstances mentioned which give zest to reading and it ends with conclusions of which one comes to mind: "Evidence of strength, Pascu Ilina and Lukács Béla will forever remain a distinctive mark of virtuousness, although they are so different and so little known".
