This book aims to present an overview of the mental processes involved in the conference interpretation activity, starting with the primary processes, sensation and perception, moving through attention and memory, and continuing with the imagination and emotional processes, motivation and willpower. Thought and language have not been addressed, as they can be the subject of an individual study. The memory is analyzed in detail to highlight the role of all memory processes in conference interpretation. In addition, short-term memory and long-term memory are treated separately, emphasizing the role of each in the interpreter's activity. We have highlighted the cases of success or failure in the restitution of information related to the functioning of psychological processes.

After joining the European Union every facet of social, political and scientific life in Latvia had to meet the claims of globalization and had to adjust to them. Terminology was not an exception. Terminologists in the multilingual society of EU had to meet the challenge of creating a common platform for main players in the field of terminology and to represent the abundance of terms encountered in every area of everyday life. Communication and interaction on international level has become a “must”, the changing of messages with other languages is a rather commonplace happening. Nevertheless the messages have to transfer information in such a way that the receiver may interpret it correctly and without mistakes.

In accordance with the modern views, a term is described as a static unit of a certain language for specific purposes that serves the function of fixation of specific knowledge as well as a dynamic unit that appears in the process of cognition as a verbalized concept. During its existence any term passes through three stages. The first stage is the birth of a term (usually in the process of speech), when it can be incomplete in its quality (there are several types of term-forming). The second stage is the period of adolescence, when a term is a unit of some terminological system that reflects certain sphere of knowledge. The third stage is a period of dying, when a term is excluded from the usage (as a rule that happens when the theory that described this particular sphere of knowledge is substituted by some other).

U poslednje tri decenije, ime Mihaila Bahtina sve više označava industriju, a manje pojedinca.

The first part of this paper focuses on the analysis of conceptual metaphor pupils of the final year of secondary school use, with the intent to determine how pupils perceive the orthography, teaching orthography, common mistakes, etc. The second part considers the metaphorical conceptualization of some typical orthography errors that are documented in written secondary school assignments. The aim of this paper is to show the possibilities of conceptual metaphors (cognitive approach) for the detection of deficiencies in teaching orthography in order to understand the causes of some orthography errors (and thus their elimination) that appear in the written expression of secondary school pupils. Also, a metaphor is used as a starting point for modeling methodological applications for the purpose of practicing proper punctuation of a sentence in the final grades of secondary school.

Poems which contain footnotes, including those with references, are paramount in the poetry by Lev Loseff. They add “philologism” to his poetry and determine the special ways which the poet uses to create the lyrical subject in his works. The lyrical subject in Loseff's poetry has two hypostases: the one of a poet and the one of a commentator. Lyrical discourse is organically combined with the philological one, and the subject’s selfreflection is combined with meta-reflection of the text.
