The aim of the text is to present the evolution of the concept of „childhood“ and discourses of childhood in social science literature and to highlight the link between ideas about who is a child and what is the nature of childhood and education. The article also discusses changes of ideas about childhood in the context of transition from socialism to capitalism and democratic regime and shows different conceptions of childhood in contemporary Czech society. Using examples of parental ethnotheories of childhood among selected social groups living in Czech Republic (socially excluded Roma, Vietnamese immigrants, unschoolers), the text shows how the ideas about who is a child and what is his/her way to adulthood influence the choice of education strategies and what tensions emerge in interaction of various conceptions of childhood.

The paper focuses on the metaphor of existence as a way of philosophical talking about life. Metaphorology was introduced by Hans Blumenberg (1920–1996), one of the most important and innovative thinkers of the 20th century. The works of Blumenberg fall generally within the category of the hermeneutics of metaphor. It is, for him, the question of substituting the study of the more hidden work of metaphors, symbols, and myths for the traditional history of concepts and doctrines. One can say there are two inextricable elements of Blumenberg’s thought: (1) a theory of nonceptuality as essential to philosophizing and (2) an exploration of culture understood as humanity’s unceasing attempts to relieve itself of the weight of the absolutism of reality. Metaphors play an important role in the philosophical language: they are not impediments to clear thinking and clear expression, but rather they are images, iconic constants used by philosophers. Metaphors are able to grasp the reality better than philosophical concepts. According to Blumenberg, metaphors are a kind of reality models, the work of human imagination. One of such models is the metaphor of seafaring/shipwreck and the present article focuses on multiple actualizations of the metaphor in Blumenberg’s philosophy

One of the most basic elements of a person’s identity is one’s name. Choosing a name for a child or for oneself can also be an expression of cultural or national identity. In the beginning of the 20th century Turkey and Iran went through a process of modernization and reforms, among others the replacement of the traditional naming system with European-style surnames. The article analyses the etymology of the most common Turkish and Iranian surnames, and shows how the adoption of surnames was used to strengthen the national identity of both societies.

In a global and multilingual society, indubitable is the importance of a reflection on the Self and the Other as defined by language. This interdisciplinary study aims at investigating, the narrative reinvention of the theoretical principles involved in the definition of the anthropological identity as expounded by Francesco Remotti. Specifically, we analyse a centenary trend in European literature identifying a peculiar form of multilingualism with the non-human and the lack of identity. From Dante’s Inferno to Joyce’s The cat and the Devil, the netherworld, its inhabitants and captives are characterized by the use of several (usually not intelligible) languages. According to this literary cliché, while the clarity and precision of a single language contributes to define a human identity, the plurality of languages is often a sign of a lost identity and of not being human anymore. It is not by chance that the verses of Dante ‘There sighs and wails and piercing cries of woe/ […] Strange languages, and frightful forms of speech,/ words caused by pain, accents of anger, voices/ both loud and faint’ are echoed in Primo Levi’s If This Is a Man. Multilingualism is the central point in Levi’s memories from the time spent in a concentration camp where ‘languages absolutely not understandable [...], the orders shouted in languages [we] were not able to recognize’ and the ‘endless Babel where everyone is shouting’ symbolize the lost human condition. Both the damned souls and the prisoners of the camp are not human anymore because they have lost their language and, with it, their identity. In our study, the comparative and hermeneutic analysis of the narrative and lexical choices adopted to represent multilingualism in European literature reveals a strong connection between human identity and the purity of language intended as a manifestation of human rationality. On the contrary, a number of recurrent diegetic choices and figures of speech seem to define the non-human as a multilingual world characterized by sighs, wails and strange languages, like the Bellsybable of Joyce’s devil.

Monuments traditionally impose emotional sovereignty over the territory: they are the expression of the cultural hegemony of the epoch. With the transition towards the second modernity in the 1980s, memorial objects start losing their consensual character; they start to provoke, to launch violent debates, to be vandalized. Could we say that the monument is no longer something durable and not to say eternal, that it gets closer to something like a situational artistic-political performance?

The great Romanian writers consider the Romanian language as apeasant language, which has acquired "the specific charm and expressivity from itsoriginal maker, who was the peasant" (Rebreanu, in Ungheanu, 1999 :181) it isowed its development to this day, because it was the only one who has alwaysspoken it. For this reason, the language spoken to today in the Romanian villages bythe elderly people is a picturesque freshness, the words and expressions have muchricher meanings, they are more flexible and full of nuances, according to the rhythmof life in constant movement and change.Through this paper we intend to analyze the sociological significance ofpopular language in general, respectively that of popular words (proverbs, sayings, idiomatic phrases) in particular from Oltenia's countryside. The approach wasmainly exploratory. We used, as a main method of research, the participantobservation ethically external, structured and unstructured. To identify the mainwords shape the lexicon of Oltenia's countryside, we made an observational studyon elderly people in Dabuleni city. The observation aimed to identify some broadcast channels of the popularwords and their intergenerational transmission, the contexts in which they are used, cultural elements that they reflect (values, norms, morals, stereotypes), this studybringing many innovative elements in this area.Key

Jahrhunderts an.

In this paper I propose to show that David Benatar's antinatalism is an appropriate response to an old challenge of ethology to the educators of today's world. After the mid-twentieth century, the founder of ethology, K. Lorenz, along with numerous scholars, addressed educators the idea that overcrowding is the main source of threat to the survival of humanity, and educators can do something about it. We believe that Benatar's antinatalism theory is a favorable response to this challenge, which claims that it is a moral duty of today's citizen not to leave offspring. The text follows the description of the problem of overpopulation and the way in which antinatalism can be a solution to this problem.
