Summary/Abstract: This work deals with the comparison of higher education accreditation systems of Turkey and Japan in a detailed and systematic manner and aims to contribute to international higher education studies. In the book, the definition of the concept of quality and its applications in higher education are examined in a broad perspective. The book deals with the quality and accreditation mechanisms of higher education in Turkey and Japan in a comparative way. Higher education quality standards and accreditation processes of both countries are described in detail, and similarities and differences are revealed with an analytical approach. The book also focuses on institutional research-based quality improvement as one of the new trends in accreditation studies. This chapter covers institutional research, quality perspectives and tools, big data in higher education and data analytics. The basic principles and methodologies in knowledge management are discussed under the sub-title of knowledge engineering and knowledge overview. A detailed analysis of how the use of big data in higher education affects decision-making and quality improvement efforts is presented. Finally, the concepts of smart education and smart universities are included. This section focuses on how higher education institutions can be integrated with technology and how smart technologies can be included in accreditation processes. This work is a valuable resource covering the comparison of the higher education accreditation systems of Turkey and Japan, and also provides an important perspective on how quality can be improved in higher education and how these processes can be combined with technology. This study is expected to contribute to expand the knowledge on quality and accreditation in higher education.
