Summary/Abstract: The current economic recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has a more significant impact on the business sector than the crisis of 2008. Many companies have had to reduce or even to close their business as a result of various measures taken to prevent the spread of the disease. However, the crisis has affected most considerably the most vulnerable segment of the business sector, small and medium – sized enterprises. Countries have taken many measures to help businesses, especially small and medium – sized enterprises, for mitigation of the negative effects on the economy. The scope and form of the measures taken vary greatly from country to country. The aim of the article is to evaluate the measures to help small and medium – sized enterprises in the Slovak Republic through a comparison with selected EU countries and to evaluate the financial impact of these measures on the Slovak economy.
