Summary/Abstract: Jan Lier published prose with an obvious salon theme in the periodical Lumír. Elements of several literary styles simultaneously dominated the prose at the time. The Parnassian features (ornamental descriptions, uniqueness of gems) coexisted with elements of conventional entertaining literature, which was dominated by the romantic plot. Even the educated middle-class readers considered Lier's prose attractive.
